Professional and Academic Background

On July 1, 2012, Norbert Belz was appointed program director for the Department of Health Information Management. For the past four and half years, as clinical assistant professor in the department, Belz has instructed such courses as legal aspects of healthcare, healthcare delivery systems, reimbursements and topics in health information management. Since 2006 he has also been working with the Center for Child Health and Development at KU Medical Center in various interdisciplinary teaching and training capacities.

Belz received his B.S. in Health Information Management from St. Louis University, and a Master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas. He is also currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management at KU, and his research interest is health technology applications for chronic disease management. 

For more than six years prior to his appointment as a faculty member Belz worked in the Center for Telemedicine and Teleheatlh at KU Medical Center, most of that time as project manager/director for numerous federal, state and foundation grants.
